Destinations in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition

I’m not big on the Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Edition that is released every year (maybe because I’m jealous of those skinny models), but I have to admit, the locations are always beautiful and exotic. The backdrops are sexy like right out of a steamy romance movie. It may even be the perfect avenue to talk your partner into taking you on a romantic getaway. Here are the locations for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2011:

Anguilla – The gorgeous water, serene sailboats, and beautiful beaches of Anguilla provide the setting for a few photos in the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. It’s also where an episode of ABC’s The Bachelor was filmed this season. Brad Womack took three contestants on a group date, and they will be featured in the issue.

British Virgin IslandsPeter Island Resort and Spa in the BVI has three villas and 52 guest rooms. Room rates run between $325-$1450 and the villas range from $3100-$14,500 per night.

California – Laguna Beach is the setting for a few photos in this year’s edition, but it’s a great year round destination. You can find out more about planning your visit by checking out the official Laguna Beach Visitor’s and Conference Bureau. The hotel used for the shoot was the Montage Laguna Beach which offers 250 rooms at around $600 per night.

Canada – Banff is one of of the most beautiful destinations in Canada and you can’t go wrong by staying at The Fairmont Banff Springs. Banff and Lake Louise provide a gorgeous backdrop for a few of the photos in the SI Swimsuit Edition. I hope they took the photos in the middle of summer, however I’ll bet those models still were a bit chilly with the wind blowing across Lake Louise. Room rates start at right around $300CN to a little less than $700CN depending on the season.

FijiTurtle Island in Fiji is one of those dreamy, romantic destinations. Located in the Yasawa Islands of Fiji, this couple’s resort offers 14 rooms at $2999, per couple, per night, all inclusive.

Hawaii – Oh, how I love Maui, and it looks like the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit models do too. The Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort is where the crew and models enjoyed their visit to Hawaii. I wonder if they traveled to Maui’s Upcountry or took the ferry over to Lanai? Room rates run between $369 – $15,000 per night depending on season and room category.

New York – A large part of the work of putting together the SI Swimsuit Edition took place in New York City. There are so many places to stay in New York and so many activities for couples, families, and swimsuit models.

Philippines – La’s Boracay Resort and Spa on Boracay Island in the Philippines offers rooms, suites, and villas. This Shangri-La resort ranges from around $400 to $1500 per night.

Singapore – Who would’ve thought that Singapore would be a place for swimsuit photos? The Capella Singapore is where the crew stayed and offers rooms, villas, and a manor. Rates run from $900 – $15,000 per night.

While all these destinations are in the luxury travel range, some of these places are actually attainable destinations for the average consumer if it’s a honeymoon, second wedding destination site, or a special anniversary. You won’t ever catch me in an issue of Sports Illustrated or even in a bikini, but whoever chose the location sets did a fantastic job. If you catch your partner reading the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, use this as an opportunity as an avenue for discussion of a romantic getaway to the destinations in the magazine.

Have you been to any of these destinations? What did you think?
