Romantic Getaways in the USA

Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, and other special holidays are romantic dates for many couples, but what if you’ve forgotten that box of chocolates, Journey necklace, or bottle of perfume? You can still surprise your significant other with an over-the-top gift that will knock their socks off – a romantic getaway.

There are so many romantic destinations around the globe, but for a last minute surprise, you may not have enough time to get your passport, if you don’t already have one. You may also wonder how to choose a romantic getaway, with all the choices out there. Here are some destinations for a romantic escape that offer something for every couple’s travel personality:

The Florida Keys – Each Key in Florida has it’s own personality and there’s something for everyone at this fun and sunny destination. For a romantic getaway, there are a variety of romantic resorts in the Florida Keys to suit any couple. The most romantic, in my opinion is Little Palm Island, a private island in the Florida Keys that is made for escaping from the every day burdens of life.

Hawaii – My husband and I just returned from a romantic trip to Lanai, one of Hawaii’s most enchanting islands. It’s a low-key destination without too many distractions. Oahu is another Hawaiian island with lodging choices in the middle of the action, such as the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa, or a quiet retreat at Marriott’s Ko’Olina Resort. A romantic outing in Maui is a visit to Maui’s Upcountry, complete with wine tasting and flowers. Each island in Hawaii is unique and romantic.

New York City – There have been so many romantic movies set in the Big Apple, making this a perfect setting for your romantic relationship. During the winter months, couples can seek out a cup of hot cocoa in New York City to warm them up as they take a stroll or make a wish on New Year’s Eve in Times Square. One of my favorite romantic New York hotels is the Hilton Manhattan East, an intimate boutique hotel perfect for couples.

New Orleans – For me, this destination is just a hop across Lake Ponchartrain, making it a convenient destination for my husband and I to have a romantic evening almost anytime. There’s so much history, good food, fun times, and beautiful architecture in the French Quarter and surrounding areas. You can take your pick of luxury hotels in New Orleans that offer ambiance, personality, and convenience. Plus, New Orleans is one of the more affordable romantic getaway destinations in the US.

Theme Parks – Sure, theme parks may seem like a family destination, but bring the fun back into your relationship by having fun in a theme park. There are magical themeparks all around the US that offer romance and sparkle. If you visit Walt Disney World Resorts and Parks for a romantic getaway, you might want to check out our list of places to find a glass of wine, beer, or a cocktail at Disney World. Universal Orlando is another romantic getaway theme park where the magic of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter comes to life.

A Romantic Cruise – My husband and I took a romantic cruise aboard the Crown Princess.  It was our first cruise experience and was extremely relaxing for both of us. It was also the first time we took a romantic getaway in many, many years. What makes a cruise romantic is the lack of everyday distractions such as work, ringing phones, and kids. Not everyone wants to take a cruise without their children, though. We enjoyed our cruise travel experience so much that we took our next cruise together on the Carnival Fantasy and brought along the kids. While it may have been a family cruise, thanks Carnival’s wide array of supervised cruise activities for kids, my husband and I were able to enjoy romantic evenings walking the ship’s deck and spending time together. The best part? You don’t need a passport if departing and returning from a US port and you only have to unpack once while still getting to visit many different countries and destinations.
