Top Free and Cheap Things to Do in Sevierville, Tennessee

Frequent readers of TravelingMamas.com will know that Sevierville, TN and the surrounding area is one of my family’s personal favorite destinations. I used to visit when I was kid and we love going back again and again (even without the kids on a girlfriend getaway). Sevierville, Tennessee prides itself on being a family friendly value destination – giving our guests maximum vacation fun at a good price. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an ecological wonderland and the only national park that is free to enter and enjoy. Highlighted activities include hiking, picnicking , fishing and just enjoying the scenery. http://www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm 

The National Knife Museum, located at Smoky Mountain Knifeworks, is a free museum showcasing the history and future of knives.

Guests can also enjoy free events like Sevierville’s Smoky Mountain Winterfest (November 8, 2010-February 28, 2011). Millions of twinkling lights and fantastic holiday displays delight guests as they drive through town.

Guests can also check out great tunes and food and Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass May 20-21, 2011. The top BBQ cook teams from around the nation compete in downtown Sevierville for $15,000 in cash and prizes and the TN State Champion title. Meanwhile, the biggest names in bluegrass entertain the crowd for free (past headliners have included Ricky Skaggs and Marty Stuart). Plus, guests can browse through artists and crafters booths, check out fun contests like the Mountain Soul Vocal Competition (honoring the songwriting of hometown girl Dolly Parton) and have a blast in the Kids’ Zone.  Admission is free and so are the concerts. www.BloominBBQ.com
