Fireworks and Flashlights

Earlier this week, we celebrated Independence Day here in the USA. Our Canadian friends celebrated Canada Day and all around the globe countries celebrate important milestones in history by lighting up the sky with colorful bursts of fireworks throughout the year. Before we realize it, New Years Eve will sneak up on us, with more celebrations.

I work full time in the fire service, in addition to my travels and writing. For me, safety has always been an important aspect of any activity my family and I participate in, including fireworks. Fireworks can be very dangerous when not handled properly or by trying to light them without proper lighting. Here are a few things to remember when it’s time for fireworks:

1. View a professional fireworks show in lieu of fireworks at home. This is the best way to protect your friends and family.

2. Sparklers are not toys and can melt things.

3. 40% of fireworks injuries in occur to children under the age of 15.

4. If opting to light fireworks at home, be sure to use a large flashlight to light the area while igniting the fireworks. We use Rayovac flashlights.

5. Stand several feet away from the fireworks as they can be unpredictable.

6. Observe all burning regulations and burn bans in your area.

These are just a few basic safety precautions to follow when it’s time for fireworks. Most of all, have fun and enjoy the time spent with family and friends during your celebrations.
