Is LEGOLAND Florida Worth It for Older Kids? An Honest Family Review

When you live within driving distance of Orlando, it’s easy to default to the big names… Disney, Universal, the parks that come with fireworks and four-figure price tags. But recently, with my brother visiting and two nieces in tow (one preteen, one early teen), we decided to try something different: a day at Legoland Florida Resort.

The short answer? It depends on the age of your kids.

Here’s the honest breakdown.

The Pros: Why LEGOLAND Florida Works (Really Well) for Some Families

1. It’s More Affordable Than the Major Orlando Parks

Ticket prices are significantly lower than Disney or Universal, which makes it an appealing option for families who want a theme park experience without the full financial commitment.

Parking is straightforward. The layout is manageable. You don’t feel like you need military-level strategy to navigate the day.

2. Wait Times Were Very Manageable

We visited on a holiday week and still found rides to have reasonable wait times. That alone lowers the stress factor for parents.

For families with kids under 10, this is a huge win.

3. It’s Perfect for Ages 3–10

The sweet spot here is absolutely elementary school age. The rides are approachable, the LEGO-themed lands are immersive, and Miniland USA is genuinely impressive…even for adults.

And next door, the dedicated Peppa Pig Theme Park is ideal for toddlers and preschoolers. I will absolutely return with my grandbabies for that.

Where It Falls Short (For Teens and Adults)

If you’re visiting with tweens or teens, expectations matter.

My nieces enjoyed parts of the day, but it felt clear that most attractions are designed for the 10-and-under crowd. Thrill seekers will likely feel underwhelmed.

That said, a new roller coaster is opening soon, and I plan to return to try it myself. LEGOLAND is clearly working to expand its appeal.

But would my husband and I go on our own for a date day? Probably not.

And that’s okay.

Who Should Visit LEGOLAND Florida?

Great fit for:

  • Families with children under 10
  • Grandparents planning a manageable park day
  • Multi-generational trips where younger kids are the focus
  • Travelers looking for a lower-cost Orlando alternative

Probably skip (or manage expectations) if:

  • Your kids are thrill-focused teens
  • You’re comparing it directly to Disney or Universal
  • You’re looking for adult-forward entertainment

The Bigger Takeaway

Living in Florida means having choices.

There are beaches within reach. Springs and state parks. Outdoor adventures. Day trips to charming towns. The big theme parks. Smaller parks like LEGOLAND.

Not every destination is meant for every season of life.

And sometimes the value of a park day isn’t about the biggest ride, it’s about manageable crowds, affordable tickets, and giving younger kids a place that feels built just for them.

We’ll be back for Peppa Pig with the grandbabies.
We’ll try the new Galacticoaster.

But we’ll also continue exploring beyond the theme park gates.

Because from Orlando, there are so many ways to build a beautiful Florida adventure.

Planning Tip

If you’re cruising out of Port Canaveral or extending an Orlando trip, LEGOLAND can be a smart add-on for families with younger kids, especially if you’re balancing different age groups and budgets.

Lakeland Linder International Airport in Lakeland, FL is also a good option for flying into the Central Florida area. Smaller airport means less crowds, less hassle.
