Tips for Enjoying the London Eye
My daughter and I decided to meet a few friends in the UK during our Mardi Gras holiday. Since the best rate flights were into London Heathrow Airport, we spent a few days playing tourist in London before heading out into the countryside for a week of relaxed writing.
Since we were being the American tourists we are, we opted to go all out and experience The EDF Energy London Eye. We researched pre-booked tickets that included a glass of bubbly in addition to skipping the regular line, but it needed to be booked more than 24 hours in advanced and we wanted to do something same day. There are also London Eye packages that include tea at the nearby Marriott hotel. But again, this required some advanced planning.
Instead we hopped on the tube at Knightsbridge near our our hotel (The Capital Hotel) and transferred lines getting off at Waterloo. A few minute’s walk towards the river and we were at the London Eye.
I purchased a basic adult ticket and a basic child ticket, which included the 4D experience. While the 4D London experience was pretty neat (and inside with a heater), we would have done better to skip that portion and head straight away to the London Eye line. The weather was very cold and overcast, but we were bundled up and made it through the line in less than 15 minutes.
The London Eye experience was a wonderful option to see London attractions from an aerial view. The capsules are large enough to hold 25 people. We stepped on board and had a relaxing 30 minute experience on the EDF Energy London Eye. The cost was 19.20 for an adult standard ticket and 12.30 for children ages 4-15. Children under the age of 4 are free and a family of four can purchase a standard family package at 63.00.
This 30 minute experience is in a capsule large enough to wander around and the technology inside is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 giving guests a touchscreen of information to identify the various landmarks seen from such a high area.
For my daughter’s first visit to London, I had no issue paying such a price for this excursion. The look on her face was unforgettable and it gave both of us a breathtaking view of London over the River Thames. It was well worth the expense and I’m so glad we splurged on this tourist attraction.
