Dream Hotel – Eclectic Boutique in NYC

Have you been dreaming of a visit to New York City for a romantic escape, girlfriend getaway or solo trip? The Dream Hotel in NYC is a great choice if looking for a unique New York travel experience. Plus, it is conveniently located near some of the area’s most popular attractions.

The Property: Located in Midtown Manhattan, Dream is not your conventional hotel. The décor at Dream New York is very eclectic, and one should come in with the mindset to “escape the ordinary”. The highlight of the hotel is the location, which is right next door to the Carnegie Deli, across the street from the Ed Sullivan theater and minutes to Times Square. I dined at the on-site Italian restaurant, Serafina, which was delicious. A popular nighttime hot spot is the Ava Lounge on the 14th floor which features a roof-top terrace with stunning views of the city.  Chopra Center & Spa, fitness center, 24-hour concierge, valet and room service round out the hotel’s amenities.

The Rooms: Dream New York describes itself as a “playground for the senses”. This is clearly expressed in each of the ultra-modern, blue lit rooms that give off a “dream-like” vibe.  Rooms vary in size from small to extra extra large 1 bedroom suites. All accommodations feature a 37” plasma television, digital iPod player, 300-thread count Egyptian cotton bedding, allergen free feather bed and duvet, minibar, in-room safe and wi-fi (for an additional charge). My large king room included a tech-savvy desk and bathroom with a small standing shower.

My Mama Moment: Being that this was a solo trip to NYC, my Mama Moment was the sense of serenity I received in my room. The soothing blue lighting and luxurious bedding really gave me some peace during my 1-night stay.

Pros: Location, location, location! Dream is located within blocks of Times Square right on Broadway. The bedding here was fabulous- I literally sank in the bed and was swaddled by the feather bedding. I don’t think I have ever experienced a more comfortable bed. Bath amenities from L’Occitane and turn-down service with an orange were a nice touch.

Cons: The décor is pretty out there. While I totally get this hotel is modern and edgy, some things were a little bizarre. Each floor has a large lighted mural that is displayed near the elevators. I was lucky enough to be on the 8th floor which featured 3 unclothed men. Other floors displayed women (also undressed), a large eye and one that looked like a child. The rooms are small and somewhat “clinical”, especially when the blue lighting wasn’t on.

Who Should Go: This property is perfectly suited for solo travelers and couples looking for a romantic getaway in the city. While I did see a few children staying at the hotel, this isn’t one I personally would book for a family vacation.
