Florida Getaways: Beaches, Theme Parks & Hidden Escapes

Your guide to exploring the Sunshine State one adventure at a time

Florida is more than just theme parks and cruise ports. From quiet beaches to lively festivals, scenic road trips to spontaneous weekend escapes, there’s always something new waiting around the next palm-lined road.

Now that I’m spending part of the year living in Florida, I’ve started exploring the state with fresh eyes… discovering the places that make it special for travelers and locals alike. Some days it’s a beach walk and seafood lunch. Other days it’s a theme park stroll or a drive to a town I’ve never visited before.

This page gathers my Florida travel stories, tips, and guides all in one place so you can plan your own Sunshine State adventures.

Theme Parks & Attractions

Central Florida is known worldwide for its theme parks, but each one offers a slightly different experience.

One day might mean wandering through international pavilions and seasonal festivals at EPCOT, while another might be a family day exploring rides and attractions at LEGOLAND Florida Resort.

Florida Beaches & Coastal Escapes

Sometimes the best Florida days are the simplest ones: sand between your toes, sunshine on your shoulders, and the sound of waves rolling in.

A recent trip to Cocoa Beach reminded me how restorative a few hours by the ocean can be. Florida’s coastline stretches for more than a thousand miles, and each beach town has its own personality.

From quiet shoreline strolls to lively surf towns, there’s always another coastal escape to discover.

Florida Weekend Adventures

Living in Florida has opened up a whole new world of spontaneous road trips and short getaways. Within just a few hours you can reach charming coastal towns, historic cities, wildlife preserves, and beautiful state parks.

Sometimes the best travel moments happen when you simply get in the car and see where the road leads.

Future adventures I’m looking forward to exploring include:

Florida and Cruise Travel

Florida is also one of the world’s busiest cruise gateways. Ports like Port Canaveral, PortMiami, and Port Everglades make the state a natural starting point for Caribbean adventures.

Many travelers extend their cruise vacation with a few extra days exploring Florida before or after sailing.

I’ll be sharing more ideas soon for:

  • pre-cruise stays
  • post-cruise weekend extensions
  • Florida destinations near cruise ports
