Holland America Is Reimagining Its Ships. Here’s What It Means for Your Next Cruise
If you’ve sailed with Holland America Line before, you probably already know what makes it special… beautifully sized ships, classic design, and a more relaxed way to see the world.

Now, the cruise line is taking things a step further.
At Seatrade Cruise Global, Holland America announced “Holland America Evolution,” a major refresh of six ships that blends everything guests already love with thoughtful new additions designed for how we travel today.
And the updates feel very intentional.

One of the most exciting changes? New stateroom options, including Solo Verandahs.
For travelers who prefer to cruise on their own (without paying double), these purpose-built rooms with private balconies are a welcome addition… and honestly, long overdue in the industry. These are perfect for the solo grandparent or family member who wants to participate in the multigenerational family cruise vacation without giving up their personal space (aka quiet time).

There’s also a noticeable shift toward more spacious and elevated accommodations, with new suites designed to maximize ocean views, the kind of detail that makes those sea days feel extra special.
And then there’s a guest favorite making its way to more ships: the Grand Dutch Café.
If you’ve experienced it before, you already know it’s one of those cozy, easygoing spots you find yourself returning to again and again, whether for coffee, a light bite, or just a quiet moment during the day.

The first ship to debut these updates will be Oosterdam in fall 2027, with more ships to follow as part of the multi-year rollout.
What I especially appreciated in this announcement is that Holland America isn’t trying to reinvent itself – it’s refining what already works. The focus is on more choice, more comfort, and more of the experiences guests already love, all while keeping that signature smaller-ship feel.
For travelers who enjoy a more relaxed, culturally immersive cruise (without the mega-ship crowds), this next chapter for Holland America is definitely one to watch.
