Charleston Marriott in Charleston, South Carolina

My family just got back from a wonderful stay at the Charleston Marriott in Charleston, South Carolina. We stayed 1-night at the Marriott before boarding the Carnival Fantasy for a 5-night cruise from the Port of Charleston.

The Rooms: I love the décor of the Charleston Marriott…while the tropical décor doesn’t scream “low country”, it is peaceful and relaxing and reminded me of home. We stayed in a double queen room on the 14th floor with a balcony. From what I could tell, balcony rooms are only found on this floor, which is concierge level. I was pleased to find a mini fridge in room, something my family regularly uses when we travel. The bathroom was very large, but only had a standing shower and no tub.

The Property: The Charleston Marriott is located a few miles from downtown Charleston. While primarily a convention hotel, it is still a great location for travelers not wanting to stay in the historic district. The feel of the hotel was definitely more South Beach than Deep South, with a pool and spa area perfect for relaxing. The hotel is clean and the staff was friendly and attentive.

Dining: In addition to room service, Saffire Charleston’s Oven is your main on-site dining option which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Daily Grind Coffee House and Aqua Terrance both serve beverages and light fare.

My Mama Moment: When staying at a new hotel, one of my favorite things is checking out the bath goodies. The Charleston Marriott certainly delivered with their selection of Bath & Body Works amenities. This mama likes to feel pampered even without a trip to the spa and these little touches make the difference.

Pros: Clean, relaxed atmosphere, complimentary on-site parking and gorgeous views of the Ashley River.

Cons: Slightly further away from the action of downtown Charleston, need car to explore the city. In-room Wi-Fi is $9.95/day.

Great for: Solo, couples, families.
